CHLOÉ FIRETTO-TOOMEY

I’m a British-American poet and essayist living in Miami, where I raise my young son, Archer, and endeavor to nurture the creative spirit—or at least complete an uninterrupted thought. Originally from Bristol, England, I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from Florida International University. My chapbook, Little Cauliflower, was published by Dancing Girl Press in 2019.

My work has been recognized with a Pushcart Prize nomination, the Christopher F. Kelly Award for Poetry, and the Scotti Merrill Memorial Award in Poetry. I’ve taught poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction at Florida International University and at Everglades Correctional Facility through the nonprofit Exchange for Change.

I currently serve as an author assistant to Presidential Inaugural Poet and Miami-Dade County’s first Poet Laureate, Richard Blanco.

I write toward the liminal spaces: star-gazing from the window seat; where the personal meets the political; where language both liberates and limits us.
